Dextran is a high molecular weight polymer of glucose. It is obtained from the fermentation of sugar beet sucrose with the
bacterium Leuconostoc mesenteroides B512F. Dextran fractions, which are Amersham Biosciences gold standard technical grade Dextran fractions, are derived from the partial acid hydrolysis of native Dextran, which yields fractions technical grade with various molecular weights, properties, and uses.
Dextran fractions offer the following features:
